Guard Selection Help

Drill Press: Three styles of guarding to choose from.

  • DPG-ES, Econ-Series: Column clamp/ bolt-on, no interlock.  The ATS Econ-Series is our economic guarding solution for drill presses, built from 30mm aluminum extrusion with a billet aluminum column clamp. They are adjustable and the shield flips upward to open.  No interlock switch is available.   The DPG-ES series are available in two different size configurations the DPG-ES1 and the DPG-ES2. The DPG-ES1 (most popular) fits machines with a 2.0" through 4.0" main round column diameter and the larger DPG-ES2 is for 4.0" through 6.5" column diameters.
  • DPG Heavy Duty Series: Column clamp/ bolt-on, available with or without interlock. This series of guarding is constructed from all heavy duty billet aluminum, offering more adjustment and the ability to be electrically interlocked.  The shield opens out to the left 180 degrees instead of flipping up like the Econ-Series. The DPG series guards come in two sizes: DPG-1 and DPG-2. 
  • MG-4 "Universal Mount": Direct mount style, must drill & tap machine. Fits on radial drill press & other drilling or milling machines where the bolt-on option will not work.   Available with or without electrical interlock switches.

    • MG-4 "Universal Mount": Direct mount style, must drill & tap machine. Fits on radial drill press & other drilling or milling machines where the bolt-on option will not work.   Available with or without electrical interlock switches. 

     

    Milling Machine: Four styles of guarding to choose from. The most commonly used and easiest to install are the MG-2 and MG-3, which are bolt-on. The MG-1 and MG-4 are good in situations where the other guards will not work. All styles can be electrically interlocked.

    • MG-2 (Head Mount): This guard mounts to the four existing holes on the quill feed plate, with longer hardware that we supply.  Truly a bolt-on installation, in 10 minutes or less.  There are two different sizes available, the MG-2 fits 2.5" to 2.75" square bolt patterns (most common) and the MG-2T fits 3.0" x 3.5" quill feed plates. If yours is different contact us for a custom plate. If the head of the machine is tilted this guard will not work, consider the MG-3 instead.
    • MG-3 (Ram Mount): This guard mounts to the large existing threaded hole on top of the ram. It is the hole used as a machine lifting point and commonly used for DRO mounting (we provide a relocation bracket if your DRO is mounted here). Bolt-on installation.   This guard offers additional side to side adjustment which is needed to center the shield on the spindle when the head of the machine is tilted. So the guard can be sized correctly we ask for a few things, the machine make/model, the pitch/diameter of the threaded hole, and the distance from the hole to the spindle center.
    • MG-1 (Floor Mount): This guard mounts to the floor and braces to the machine. This guard is a great option if you do not have mounting locations for the other types of guards. This guard also gives side to side shield adjustment which is required to center the shield on the spindle when the head of the machine is tilted. 
    • MG-4 (Universal Mount): This guard mounts via drilling and tapping or thru bolting a 4" x 4" square plate onto the machine. The plate has set screws to level the mount out if the mounting surface is not perfectly flat. So the guard can be sized correctly we ask for a few things, the machine make/model, and the three dimensions shown on our measurement form (A, B, & C). 

    Vertical Band Saw: One style of guard, available in two sizes. Attaches by drilling and thru-bolting to the machine's upper door.

    • VB-ES0: Small model, fits 14" and smaller machines. 5" Tall Shield
    • VB-ES1: Standard model, fits 15" and larger machines. 7" Tall Shield

    Bench & Pedestal Grinder Guards: Three styles of guarding to choose from.

    • UGS Series: This guard series is a direct aftermarket replacement for Baldor GA10 and GA11 eye shield assemblies. They come in two sizes, the UGS-1 is for 6" baldor grinders and the UGS-2 is for 7", 8", and 10" Baldor Grinders.  They are designed to bolt to the side of the thicker Baldor cast iron housing, which is threaded.  With some minor modifications, these can be installed on other brands of bench grinders.
    • ATS-TG Series: This guard is a bolt on tongue guard for Baldor grinders. It is available in three different sizes bases on wheel diameter and comes in stainless steel or orange powder coated finishes. 6"-8" wheels get the ATS-TG68, 10" wheels get the ATS-TG10, and 12"/14" wheels get the ATS-TG1214. The stainless steel finish is standard and the orange powder coat finish is denoted by an O at the end of the part number.
    • SG Series: This series of guarding is our most versatile type of grinder guard and can be mounted in many ways. It comes in two main sizes, each of which have two shield width options. The SG-2 is for 6"-8" wheel diameters and the SG-3 is for 10" wheel diameters. The standard shield width is 6" and the second option is a 9" wide shield which is denoted by a L at the end of the part number. 

    Lathe: Several styles of guarding to choose from, both stock and custom. All guards can be electrically interlocked.

    Stock:

    • LG-TR2: Hinged chuck/chip guard for Hardinge toolroom lathes, comes in 12" wide and 18" wide versions.
    • ATS-CG2: Hinged collet closer guard for Hardinge toolroom lathes.
    • LG-TR3: Hinged chuck/chip guard that mounts to the machine headstock, comes in 12" wide and 18" wide versions, fits machines up to 12" chuck diameters.
    • CC816: Hinged, 8" wide chuck cover that mounts to the machine headstock, fits machines with 8"-16" chuck diameters

    Custom:

    • LG-TR3-SLH (machine mount sliding and hinged): Sliding and hinged chuck/chip guard that mounts to the machine headstock, comes in 12" wide and 18" wide versions, fits machines up to 16" chuck diameters. See standard design to check fitment, if it does not fit you can request design changes.
    • LGH (floor mount hinged): Fully custom lathe guard, fill out our dimension form for a quote. Upon purchase of the guarding our team will work with you to create a design that best fits your specific needs. Hinged guards work best with small to midsize machines, if the machine is loaded overhead hinged guards will not work. The main benefit to hinged guards is they are are more economic.
    • LGH-1 (machine mount hinged):  Fully custom lathe guard, fill out our dimension form for a quote. Hinged guards work best with small to midsize machines, if the machine is loaded overhead hinged guards will not work. The main benefit to hinged guards is they are are more economic.

    Hydraulic Press: Two styles of guarding to choose from.

    • HPGuard-Hinged: Hinged hydraulic press guard available in four single sided standard sizes, 18", 24" , 30", and 36" tall doors. Custom fit to machine width. Standard sizes can be purchased directly from our website. Custom heights and double sided guards are available upon request. Fill out our dimension form for a fully custom quote.     • HPGuard-Sliding: Sliding press guard fully custom fit to the machine. Fill out our dimension form for a quote. It is available in single and double sided configurations and has optional powder coat and electrical interlocking.

    Surface Grinder: One style of guard, custom fit to the machine. Attaches via thru bolting or drilling and tapping mounting brackets to the machine.

    • SG-Special: Fully custom surface grinder guard, fill out our dimension form for a quote. Upon purchase of the guarding our team will work with you to create a design that best fits your specific needs. The guard has powder coat and electrical interlocking options.
